OSTER PÜKK OG SAND exploits one quarry for the production of gneiss. Gneiss is a type of granite. It is mainly used in concrete, asphalt, and as railroad ballast.
The head office of the company is located in Eikefet, Norway, on the site of the quarry, few kilometres away of
Bergen. OSTER PÜKK OG SAND employs some 40 people.
The total production of gneiss is approximately two and a half million tonnes per annum, whereas the total reserves of the quarries are estimated at about 100 million tonnes. The quarry, situated along the fjords, is easily accessible from the North sea, and has its own 10,5m deep quay. This enables them to receive and load sea going vessels of up to 35.000 tonnes. Loading is performed at 2000 tonnes per hour.
As well as servicing local and nationally-based clients using small vessels, OSTER PÜKK OG SAND specialises in deliveries to northern european ports including France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Poland.
Group De Cloedt owns the DC Merwestone, a 5000 tonne bulk-carrier vessel, which carries out regular deliveries to the clients.
